DCB website

Department of Biological Sciences · CENUR Litoral Norte · Web development

We are developing the new website of the Department of Biological Sciences (DCB) at CENUR Litoral Norte, Universidad de la República. It replaces the department's previous site with an open, bilingual and easy-to-maintain codebase.

A preliminary version is currently served from our group's GitHub repository while the department's final hosting is set up.

What the project involves

  • Designing the site around the department's visual identity
  • Migrating and reorganizing the content of the previous site
  • Bilingual Spanish/English content
  • A data model that lets each research group keep its own information current

What the site covers

The site presents the department as a whole — its institutional information, research groups, teaching, outreach activities, recognitions and contact details — in a single, consistent place.

How it is built

It is a static site built with Next.js, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS, with Spanish as the default language and an English version, plus light and dark themes based on the colors of the department's logo. Research-group data lives in simple JSON files, so updating a group's information automatically updates the related sections.

Every change pushed to the repository is published automatically to GitHub Pages through GitHub Actions — no server is needed.
